Simple

Men (and women) were created to chase after God's wants and desires. Not the desires of themselves. So many people read just a few dozen scriptures in their lives, and then listen to some preacher (whom they trust) to tell them what is in the scriptures; but they never read it themselves.

As a result, the most popular teaching about God and Christ (which is false by the way) is one where God's number one goal is to make 'you' happy. So of course you should chase after what makes you happy because that's God's goal as well and He is going to help you in that pursuit; isn't He?

WRONG. We were made by Him, through Him, and FOR Him. When we pursue Him, once our heart begins to align with His will then we will find a happiness and fulfillment that that can't be bent by what happens during a day. Notice that this idea sheds new light on Psalms 37:4

When we live 'for' Him we can seldom if ever be disappointed again because God's plans can not be thwarted. Yes both joy and suffering are a part of God's perfect will. In regard to men/women relationships; this might be a shocker to most ... but men were not created to pursue women, and women were not created to pursue me. Both were created to pursue the one that gave them life and gave them His life by the sacrifice of the Christ. If Christ doesn't fill most of the thoughts and desires every day, then you don't yet realize the depth of what He has done for you.
